3 Ways to Find Keywords for Your Small Business

As the hack of the week is to incorporate keywords into the website of your small business, I thought it would be important to share with you a few ways to find good keywords to focus on.

After all, if no one is searching for a keyword then what is the point?

Here are three ways to find good small business keywords.

See What Is Being Typed Into Google

When you go to Google, it will start to autofill your search phrase with phrases that have been previously used.  This tool is the cheapest, quickest, and easiest way to figure out  what is being searched for.

To do this, put your primary keywords into Google and then  go through the alphabet letter by letter as it autofills various phrases based off of one or two keywords you previously entered.  You can put the letter before or after your keywords (like you are starting to type another word after or before the keywords).

Use Google Keyword Planner

The next way to find keywords that are actually being searched for is to use Google’s “Keyword Planner” tool.  While this tool is intended to be used in running Google ads, it can be used by anyone.  For free.

Use a Keyword Program

If you are looking to take your SEO to the next level and want something that goes above and beyond Google’s Keyword Planner, then there are several third party solutions.

Two of the most common are Market Samurai and Long Tail Pro.  I  use the Platinum version of LTP as it provides a “competitiveness ranking” which show how easy/difficult it may be to rank high for specific keywords.

Action Item: Use one of the tools listed above and find three keywords you can begin to incorporate into your website.
